CREATING A HOMEY GUEST BEDROOM

The holiday season is finally here! It’s the best time of year when friends and family come to visit. Here are some tips for setting up a guest bedroom and bringing a little piece of home to your guests!

The Essentials

One of the most important things to keep in mind when creating your guest bedroom is the essentials your guests will need. It’s always nice to have a set of towels in the room when they arrive. In the bathroom, have an extra toothbrush, toothpaste, and shower necessities available. Similar to a hotel, these items don't need to be full-size or the best name brand, but your guests will appreciate it if after a long day of travel if they realize they forgot something, and you have an extra for them.

Keep it Comfortable

While you may want to wow your guests, choose comfort over extravagance. Make sure there are warm blankets and soft pillows so your guests can sleep well and recharge for the fun days ahead! Practicality should also be kept in mind. While it would be impressive for your guest bedroom to look like a 5-star resort, your guests will be spending most of their time with you–so keep it simple!

Make Sure There is Space to Organize

Living out of a suitcase can get old very fast. Make your guests feel comfortable by having places they can put their belongings during their stay. If your guest bedroom has a closet or dresser that is filled with your holiday decorations or seasonal clothes, clean some space out so they can unpack when they arrive. A key holder is always a nice touch to keep keys, coats, and bags organized. Finding furniture that is multifunctional also goes a long way. You can add a bench at the end of the bed that doubles as a storage space.

Individual Space

Even during the holiday season, guests need their own space to unwind, recharge, and get ready. Your guests most likely won’t want to invade your space, so provide them with the items they need for their daily routines. A large mirror is a must for getting ready, so try to include one in their room. If you know one of them has to work during their visit, a desk in their own private space will be extremely helpful.

Personalize the Room

If a guest is staying with you for an extended amount of time, it may make them feel at home if you personalize the space. If you want to add a personal touch, add some pictures of you and your guests to the side table. If this is an in-law suite where they stay every year, adding pictures of the family or grandkids can create a special connection to a space where they will be staying for multiple visits. You can even get extra bonus points for picking up some of their favorite treats!

You don’t need much to impress your guests. Having an extra space for them will mean the world so they can be stress-free and make the most of the time they have with you during their visit.
