UPCOMING HOLIDAY EVENTS IN YOUR COMMUNITY

During the holiday season, there are certain activities that we can always count on — family gatherings, Christmas tree shopping, ice skating, and menorah lightings. Here’s an overview of local community events throughout Ohio, West Virginia, and Northern Kentucky that can spice up your holiday traditions this year.

Akron

  • Polar Express on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad: Take a 75 minute trip to the North Pole now through December 21st from 5:30pm – 8:00pm! Enjoy hot cocoa and cookies on your ride while visting Santa and writing Christmas letters to the North Pole. Get tickets ahead of time, starting at $45 for weekday rides and $47 for weekend rides.

  • Canton Palace Theatre Holiday Movie Series: Catch your favorite holiday classics with your family and friends at the Canton Palace Theatre starting November 26th through December 22nd for $10 per ticket sold at the door.

  • Chanukah at the Mall: Visit 3265 W. Market Street in Fairlawn on December 19th between 6:30pm and 8:30pm to celebrate the start of Hanukkah with entertainment, food, and fun.

Cincinnati

  • Downtown Dazzle: Head to Fountain Square every Saturday night from November 25th to December 17th to see Santa rappel from a Cincinnati skyrise followed by fireworks and music for free!

  • Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati Zoo: The Cincinnati Zoo’s magical lights display is a must see that runs from November 18th to January 8th. General admission tickets to the Zoo start at $20 and parking is $10 per car.

  • Let It Glow: This free and beautiful drive through experience is provided by Rockwern Academy from December 18th – 22nd as well as the 24th from 6:00 - 8:00pm to celebrate Hanukkah!

Cleveland

  • Tour the house from A Christmas Story: Did you know the Christmas Story house was in Cleveland, Ohio? Bring the movie to life this holiday season! Daily tours are $15 for adults and $11 for children.

  • December Shabbat/Chanukah Program: Join the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Cleveland on Friday December 23rd from 6:30pm to 9:30pm for a celebratory dinner, featuring Zoom guest speaker Gregg Philipson.

Columbus

  • Wildlights at Columbus Zoo and Aquarium: Now through January 1st, 2023 visit the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium for musical light shows and visits with Santa & his reindeer. Seasoned pros recommend visiting after Christmas to experience smaller crowds.

  • 12 Elves of Dublin Scavenger Hunt: For the month of December, participate in a historic, Dublin-wide scavenger hunt. Pick up a card from participating locations and search local shops to find all twelve elves for a chance to win the Grand Prize Basket!

  • Maccabee Landing: Visit Bevelhymer Park in New Albany on Sunday, December 18th to see the Maccabee Hero skydive down to light the Menorah. Then, watch the helicopter dreidel drop and the world’s first candy cannon shoot out Chanukah candies!

Dayton

  • Rike’s Holiday Windows: Check out the beautiful window displays—free of charge—at the Schuster Performing Arts Center everyday through December 31st!

  • Woodland Lights: See half a mile of holiday lights and displays each night of operation from November 18th to December 23rd. For the 30th anniversary, each night has a special theme and events in addition to regular programming. Tickets are $9 to walk the path (children 2 and under are free) or you can get a season pass for $20.22.

  • CWC Chanukah Dinner and Craft Night: Head to Chabad of Greater Dayton on December 22nd at 6:30pm for a community Hanukkah celebration including dinner and Menorah designing.

Parkersburg

  • Artist Trees Exhibit: See what Picasso and other famous artists’ trees may have looked like at the Parkersburg Art Center’s annual tree exhibit!

  • Winterfest: Head to downtown Parkersburg for a free and event-filled celebration of the holiday season on Saturday, December 3rd from 3:00pm to 6:30pm at Bicentennial Park.

  • Latke Saturday: Check out Market Street’s Crystal Cafe on December 10th from 9:00am to 11:00am for Latke Saturday to celebrate Hanukkah this season!
